The papillon is a small, lively, refined, elegant dog belonging to the toy group and thought to have been derived from the toy spaniel. "Papillon" is french for butterfly as the ears resemble the spread wings of a butterfly. He is an avid, intelligent performance and conformation dog with a great willingness to please. They are fast becoming popular service and therapy dogs. With their antics and tricks they can provide years of companionship for a multitude of human personality types.

Grooming for the papillon is minimal. Special attention to brushing their teeth and keeping the fringe and tail combed are a must. Their single coat makes for weekly bathes with some feet trimming and toenail clipping.
